Beginners welcome

Beginner’s Course

Eight friendly weeks for people who are new to running, want to get fitter or would love to rediscover running.

Start at your pace

In May we run an eight week Beginner’s Course aimed at those who have never run before, new runners who want to get a bit fitter and ex-runners who want to rekindle their love of running. Several of our club members started out in the Beginner’s Course and are now running regularly with the main club.

The course is taken by a qualified coach who will take you through the principles of running and set you achievable goals for the end of the course. It’s a really fun and motivational course and is held on the field at Carlton Park.

A runner’s story

Friendly coaching makes the difference

“I don’t think I would have ever seen myself as the type of person that would join a running club. I have never been a runner but I started by using the free couch to 5k app after recovering from a major illness that left me with lasting nerve damage and pain. I wanted to get fit, loose the weight I’d gained through my illness and meet new people. Using the app I did manage to start running but it’s hard to keep motivated if you’re doing it by yourself after work. I had seen some adverts locally for the beginners course so decided to pull up my big girl pants and just join. I am so pleased I did. The coaches are knowledgeable, the club members are friendly and I’m now running three times a week at my own pace. I’ll never win any medals for speed but my health has improved, I’ve made new friends and I’ve got new goals for the year ahead.”
